About the Department

The Department of Economics is as old as the college itself. The Department was started in the year 1970 and offers Economics at the UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D. levels. It is a renowned department in Arul Anandar College. The UG Programme was started in 1970-71 and it was promoted as a post graduate department in the year 1984-85. The M.Phil. programme was started in 1990-91. Recognizing the renowned works of the Department, Madurai Kamaraj University had the pleasure of upgrading the Department as Research Centre in 2001-02.

It is significant to point out that the departemnt has produced more 29 Ph.D. degree awardees and at present 33 Ph.D. scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. programme. Most of the faculty members of the department are Ph.D. holders and among them 6 are guiding Ph.D. scholars.

The department of Economics does not limit itself to classroom teaching alone. It organizes Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences on matters of economic significance. The faculty members have completed 6 minor projects and 2 major projects which were funded by UGC, ICSSR and MIDS. The faculty members have written many text books to their credit and published articles in national and international journals.
