The department of Economics organizes seminars and conferences in relevant topics every year. These programmes are propagate the current scenario of national and global economy. The resource persons are from various reputed institutions across the nation. The department recently organized State level seminar on “Towards A Five Trillion Dollar Economy” on 12th February 2020. The resource persons were Dr.J.Jeyaranjan, Director, Institute of Development Alternative, Chennai, Dr.M.Vijaya Baskar, Professor, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai, Mr.K.Kanagaraj, Member, State Secretariat of CPI (M), Tamilnadu.

The lockdown imposed due to Covid-19 has made the educational institutions to switch over to the virtual mode of conferences. The Department organized an International Webinar on “Agricultural Reforms: Challenge or Opportunity” on 9th March 2021.

The department usually organised Workshop on Statistical Package in Soical Sciences for the benefit of the scholars to complete their research work. These workshops arranged with the collaboration of MIDS, ICSSR in several times.

The department organsies PG State Level Inter- Collegiate Quiz Competition in Economics for the Rolling Trophy in memory of Mr. MANUEL and Ms THERESA MANUEL every year.

The department has the privilege of conducting zonal level competitions (Essay and Elocution) for the students of Economics of south zone in Tamilnadu entrusted by Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah trust in order to boost the competitive spirit among the students.

As a part of ARISE an Extension programme the Department organizes rallies, awareness programmes, Samathuva Pongal, Swatch Bharath, to fulfill the mission social transformation.

The Department has taken good initiative to record the academic memories of the Golden Jubilee Department in the form of Newsletter. This Newsletter is adding a feather in its cap.

The department organizes many activities for development of the students. Guest lectures are arranged for the students to enrich their knowledge and to participate in other competitions. The department arranged off-campus evaluation for students and orientation programme to the first year under graduate and post graduate students.
