Department of History


The Department of History annually organizes National & State seminars focuses on contemporary Social, Economic, Political, Cultural and Historical issues and challenges. These seminars are intended to create awareness among the History students to attain new spirit and critical thinking by journeying into the past.



The Department of History commemorates the HISTO-FEST an Inter-Collegiate Competitions for Rev. Fr. HENRY HERAS S.J. ROLLING TROPHY to promote creative skills and competitive spirit among the students of History in view of Arul Anandar College's Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The Department Alumni (2015–2018 Batch) has instituted a rolling trophy in honour of Rev. Fr. Henry Heras a Jesuit Priest, Historian and Archaeologist who contributed to the promotion of Historical and Cultural Research in India.




Heritage Club of Arul Anandar College established in 2019 as the Golden Jubilee Innovative measure of the Department of History envision spreading awareness of Culture and Heritage among the History students by motivating and involving them in the activities of the Club organized to generate interest and compassion and to sensitize the m towards various issues related to our fragile cultural Heritage and their role in promotion of this cause. The activities undertaken include AV Sessions, Heritage Walks in addition to interaction with the Experts in this field.



The Department of History has organizing a STATE LEVEL INTER COLLEGIATE QUIZ contest for College Students. Department Alumni (2005-2008 Batch) has instituted a Rolling Cup in honour of JOHN DI BRITTO, a Jesuit Saint and champion of the downtrodden in Ramnad District in the 7th Century.


The Department of History has organizes FR J B TRINCAL MEMORIAL INETR RURAL SCHOOLS QUIZ contest for the X STD of the rural schools under the auspices of "ACHIVE" (Arulanadar College History Integrated Extension for Village Empowerment) the exclusive extension programme of the Department.




The uniqueness of the Department of History is conducting Tours & Field visit to Historical and Archaeological significant places of in India every year. It gives learning experience to the students from outside the class room.
