The Department of Economics is serving for the past five decades in the rural soil of Karumathur from the inception of the college since 1970. It is indeed very proud to say that it has successfully completed 50 years of academic journey with full vigour and excellence. Within this short span of time, it has been upgraded as Centre for Research in Economics. The Department has its own tradition in inculcating knowledge and imparting quality education to the first generation learners mostly hailing from the rural background with the strong foundation laid by stalwarts like prof. S. Michael Samy and his eminent team. As a centre for research, 64 scholars have been awarded with Ph. D. by Madurai Kamaraj University so far.
The culture of organising seminars and conferences every year by inviting eminent personalities in the field of economics gives lot of exposure to the students to familiar with the concepts of economics.
The Department has professionally qualified, well experienced and committed teaching fraternity. And it offers Undergraduate (B.A), postgraduate (M.A), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes in economics with excellent infrastructure and Research facilities. The students of economics are properly oriented towards their multi-dimensional and versatile growth.
