Greetings from the Department of Chemistry, Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Madurai. Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1971 offering PU course and now it caters to the needs of the students with respect to learning and research experiences in Chemistry and also to create good quality human resources. At present, the department offers B.Sc. Chemistry (Aided) and M.Sc. Chemistry (Self-financed) programmes. The department has well-qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty, with blend of knowledge and experience. The faculties are also involved in research and publish their research articles periodically in reputed National and International journals.

Our courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge of Chemistry, and introduce them to various experimental skills. The curriculum of the Department provides equal weightage to theory as well as practical. Besides, the department has been constantly revising the contents of the theory and practical (laboratory) syllabi. The Department encourages the students to participate in inter-collegiate competitions, seminars/webinars, workshops, quiz programs and other extra-curricular activities. The department also organizes educational trips to various industries, research centres and reputed institutes in order to give them a good Chemistry exposure. In order to expose research to the post-graduate students, they are given research projects and allowed to carry out the same at Arul Anandar College or at other research organizations. Many of our post-graduate students have published research papers, presented their research work in National and International conferences/seminars and completed online Certificate courses via SWAYAM in NPTEL, etc.

The department is well equipped with state of the art lab facilities and teaching models, for undergraduate and postgraduate students besides a research lab. The faculties of the department prepare various e-contents and use ICT tools to enrich teaching pedagogy to the students.

Prof. MSN Endowment Scholarship was established in the year 2015 to provide financial assistance to under-graduate students and Prof. ARV fellowship was initiated during the academic year 2020-21 to provide financial assistance to post-graduate students.

The alumni of the Department occupy high positions in Industry and Academia in India and World-wide. Their accomplishments reflect the quality imparted to our students.

As the Head of the department, I believe that our faculty is working as a team to facilitate the students with necessary skills to become sound in knowledge, technical intellectuals and good human beings.
