Department of Chemistry


Department of Chemistry is happy and proud to announce that our students are good in academic as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The Department along with the students have strived harder for excellence and have achieved positive and brilliant results in majority of our activities.


1. Our students Mr. C. Hayagreevan (19CHE509), Mr. B. Siva (19CHE115), Mr. R. Rahul (19CHE517) & Mr. S. Denisdon published a research article “Sulphonated silica and sulphonated silica / carbon particles as efficient catalysts for hydrogen generation from sodium borohydride hydrolysis” in International Journal of Hydrogen Energy with an impact factor of 5.816.

2. Mr. A. Anish, Ms. K. Joniyo Deepthi, Ms. J. Kiruba Alency received a fellowship of Rs. 7500/- under the guidance of Dr. N. Savitha Devi from Student Project Scheme, Tamilnadu State Council for Science & Technology.

3. Our students, participated in the intercollegiate competitions CHEM AMIGOS organized by Bishop Heber College on 4-4-2022 and won II Prize in ‘Amphoteric’ event (Mr. Kabilan), III Prize in ChemQuiz (Mr. Hariharan & Mr. Mani Bharathi), III Prize in Chem-Charades (Ms. Shalini & Ms. Evangeline Janet) and III Prize in Chem-Hunt (Mr. Gokulakrishnan & Mr. Tokophilus).

4. Two of our students Ms. K. Joniyo Deepthi and Ms. J. Kiruba Alency did Summer Training Programme in Chemistry STPIC-2021 organized by The Academy of Sciences, Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Madras, Chennai and Department of Physical Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University between 20th July – 07th August, 2021.

Seminars/Conferences/Online workshops attended/presented by students

1. Ms. P. Ajitha, Ms. Sambika presented a paper in the international conference on “Smart Materials Chemistry (CHEMSMAT-21) on 29-31 July 2021 organized by Department of Chemistry, St. Joseph College (Autonomous), Trichy.

2. Mr. V. Sunil Dass has participated and presented his project work in the International conference IACS-2021 organized by Department of Chemistry, M.E.S’s Abasaheb Garware College, Pune during 21-23, October 2021.


1.Mr. R. Rahul (19CHE517, II M. Sc) applied for an internship program under UGC-STRIDE-IRCECCB in Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and he received the fellowship.

2.Mr. C. Hayagreevan (19CHE509, II M. Sc) won the First prize in the completion for Heber Young Innovated Award (HYIA-21) held on 25.02.2021 at Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli -17. He was also awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 3000/- for the same.

3.J. Nishonth Antony (19CHE511, M.Sc) won the Best Poster Presentation Award in the International Virtual Conference on Futuristic Research in Nanotechnology organized by Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Kelambakkam-03, Tamil Nadu, India on 25.03.2021.

4.Our M. Sc Students, Ms. K. Kavitha (18CHE505), Mr. S. Jeyaraj (18CHE503) has published their M.Sc. project work as a research paper entitled "Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Biophytumsensitivum extract and its electrocatalytic activity towards dioxygen reduction" in Materials today: Proceedings, (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.matpr.2021.02.605) under the guidance of Dr. A. John Jeevagan.

5.Our B.Sc. Student Ms. S. Snega (18CHE140) has participated and secured I prize in Paper Presentation Contest in State Level ChemFest 2020 organized by the Department of Chemistry, Sri Parasakthi College for Women, Coutrallam on 24. 10. 2020. In addition, Ms. P. Nikkitha has also presented in the Paper Presentation Contest.

6.Our student Mr. V. Sunil Dass (20CHE522) got selected for the Summer Research Program 2021 at IISER Kolkatta under the guidance of Prof. S. Raja Sanmugam, IISER, Kolkatta. (Summer Research Programme 2021 (iiserkol.ac.in))

7.In addition, our students have registered the online courses conducted by MOOC/NPTEL. The list of students who registered for MOOC/NPTEL courses: Ms. Alphonsa Rainy (20CHE504), Ms. J. 8.In addition, our students have won many events in the intradepartmental sports competitions particularly won runner up in Cricket event conducted at Arul Anandar College.

9.In addition, our students have attended many webinars, online quiz, virtual courses and etc., They keep themselves active even in the pandemic period by attending many virtual programs conducted by various institutes.

1.Mr. P. Pawel and Mr. A. Anandaraj (II M.Sc.) attended a workshop on chemistry conducted by Lady Doak College, Madurai on 13-12-2019.

2.Mr. R. Rahul, Mr. S. Denisdon and Ms. A. Ashwin Felicita (I M.Sc.) and Dr. M. Amalraj attended the workshop on “Recent Trends in Electrochemistry for Societal Applications”, conducted by Loyola College, Chennai on 31-1-2020.

3.Mr. S. Jeyaraj, Ms. M. Kavitha (II M.Sc.) and Dr. A. John Jeevagan presented a paper on “Facile Synthesis of Visible Light Driven Tin Oxide (Sn3O4) Supported Bimetallic Nanoparticles and its Photocatalytic Activity” in the International Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Chemistry and Energy Science’ at Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai on 7-2-2020.

4.Mr. A. Anandaraj (II M.Sc.) and Dr. M. Amalraj presented a paper on “Preparation of Ni(OH)2/Carbon Nanohybrids by Hydrothermal Carbonization Process for the Electrocatalytic Applications in Oxygen Evolution Reaction” in the International Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Chemistry and Energy Science’ at Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai on 7-2-2020.

5.Mr. S. Jeyaraj and Mr. A. Anandaraj (II M.Sc.) attended National ‘Seminar on Recent Trends in Chemistry’ conducted by the Department of Chemistry, Fathima College, Madurai.

6.Mr. S. Jeyaraj, Ms. M. Kavitha (II M.Sc.) and Dr. A. John Jeevagan presented a paper on “Facile Synthesis of Visible Light Driven Tin Oxide (Sn3O4) supported Pd-Au Alloy Nanoparticle” in the National Conference on ‘Energy Science and Technology’, organized by Periyar University, Salem.


1.Mr. S. Denisdon, I M.Sc. student won I prize in Chem Meme in the intercollegiate competitions conducted at SFR College, Sivakasi on 28th January, 2020.

2.Mr. A. Antony Samy from III B.Sc. won the II prize in Chem Quick in the intercollegiate competitions conducted by Jayaraj Annapackiam College, Periyakulam on 9-1-2020.

3.Ms. S. Snega from II B.Sc. won the II prize in the paper presentation competition for presenting ‘High Energy Batteries’ at The American College, Madurai. Mr. S. Ashraf, Mr. S. Edison, Mr. M. Anish from III B.Sc. and Mr. M. Gokula Krishnan and Mr. A. Tokophilus from I B.Sc. participated in Chem Ad-Act held at The American College, Madurai and won I prize.

4.Students from the Department of Chemistry participated in the intercollegiate competitions conducted by Parvathy’s Arts and Science College, Dindigul on 14-02-2020. Ms. S. Snega from II B.Sc. won the II prize in the paper presentation entitled ‘Materials Chemistry’. Mr. S. Ashraf, Mr. S. Edison, Mr. M. Anish from III B.Sc. and Mr. M. Gokula Krishnan and Mr. S. Mohith Vikash from I B.Sc. won I prize as a team in the Chem AdAct. Mr. Sathish from I B.Sc. won the III prize in Chemart. Mr. A. Antony Samy from III B.Sc. won the II prize in Chemspeed competition. Ms. M. Sri Aruthra and Ms. K. Jansidevi won the II prize in Chem modelling. Out of 26 colleges, students of Arul Anandar College won the OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP trophy at the intercollegiate competitions held at Parvathy’s College of Arts and Science.

5.Students of Chemistry actively participated in the intercollegiate competition RESONANCE-2k20 conducted by Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul. Ms. S.Snega from II B.Sc. won the II prize in the paper presentation for presenting “Sustainable Materials for Energy Applications”. Mr. S. Ashraf, Mr. S. Edison, Mr. M. Anish from III B.Sc. and Mr. M. Gokula Krishnan and Mr. A. Tokophilus from I B.Sc. participated in Chem Ad-Venture and won I prize.

6.Students of Chemistry participated in the intercollegiate competitions conducted by Kalasalingam University, Krishnankovil on 22-02-2020. Mr. S. Ashraf, Mr. M. Anish, Mr. S. Edison from III B.Sc. and Mr. M. Gokulakrishnanand Mr. A. Tokophilus from I B.Sc. won the II prize in Chem Adact. Mr. A. Antony Samy from III B.Sc. Chemistry won the III prize in Chemclicks. Mr. P. Nagarajan, Mr. P. Pawel, Mr. P. Kabilan and Mr. K. Marimuthu won I prize in Chemconnection. Mr. K. Marimuthu from III B.Sc. won I prize in fun chemistry.


1.On sports day, our students participated in March past and won III Prize.

2.Mr. A. Antony Samy (III B.Sc.) won II prize in 2000 meter running competition in the sports day competition.

3.During Interdepartmental Sports meet conducted by our college, our students won the runner up in Kho Kho event.


1.As part of the celebration of Golden Jubilee, college has conducted speech competition. Our student Mr. P. Kabilan from I B.Sc. won III prize in the speech competition and spoke about AAC-The Light House for Rural Students.


1.Mr. Antony Samy won the I prize in Photography competition.

2.Mr. S. Ashraf from III B.Sc. won the III prize in Talent Show.

3.Ms. A. Kavitha and Ms. P. Pandeeswari participated in face painting and won III prize.

4.Mr. Anish from III B.Sc. won the III prize in Start with Rs. 50 event.

5.Besides our students won the I prize in the on-stage events such as Folk dance and Ad Mad and participated in the on-stage event Fusion dance.


1.Our student N. Pouvizhi won the II Prize in Paper Presentation in the intercollegiate competition “Synthon 001” conducted by Vivekananda College, Madurai on 13 March 2019. She also won III prize in Paper presentation at Resonance – an Intercollegiate competition organized by Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram on February 2019.

2.She also won II Prize in the Cultural in “Spectra 2019” organized by Mary Matha College of Arts and Science, Periyakulam on February 2019. N. Pouvizhi and M. Kavitha won II Prize in the Ad-Act competition in the same intercollegiate completion.

3.M. Kavitha and M. Aarthi won the II Prize in Chem-Maker competitionin the intercollegiate competition “Synthon 001” conducted by Vivekananda College, Madurai on 13 March 2019.

4.M. Aarthi has participated and won the II prize in Spectra 2019 organized by Mary Matha College of Arts and Science, Periyakulam on February 2019.

5.N. Pouvizhi has participated one day seminar program organized by VCare’s Global Institute of Health Sciences on August 2019.
