INTERSTATE STUDENTS FORUM

 

VISION

Holistic development of students from other states and empowerment of the students community with diverse cultural heritage through Cultural Integration among the students.

MISSION

To provide a favourable environment of safety and security for students of other states that they feel at home here.

To generate an opportunity for other state students to express their view and ideas at different forum in their own mother tongue.

To offer personal and academic counselling to support them and develop their social, psychological and physical well-being for holistic development.

To foster the cultural heritage and promote cross cultural understanding through various programme.

ACTION PLAN

To create a database and conduct periodical meetings.

To assist them in the admission procedure and getting them no clearance certificate from the respective departments.

To arrange periodic counselling for the interstate students based on their needs.

To encourage students in academic excellence and arrange training programms as per the requirements.

To conduct cross-cultural activities aiming to achieve cultural harmony.

To search for some scholarship scheme fitting to their needs.

To facilitate them to get their certificates after completion of the course.

ORIGIN

Arul Anandar College has a unique practice of providing admission to every deserving student whether national or international.We have students grouping from north-eastern states to south-western states. Every year the number of Other State students studying in the college increases; therefore the need for Interstate Students Forum was felt and it was materialized in the academic year 2017-18.

The first formal inaugural function of Interstate Students Forum was held on 7th September 2017. Rev. Dr. S. Basil Xavier SJ, Principal, Arul Anandar College inaugurated the forum for facilitating the students to feel at home and feel one with other students of the college by overcoming the cultural barriers as they come from different cultural backgrounds.

India is being a secular country known for its unity in diversity. Arul Anandar College also promotes the spirit of oneness in spite of our diverse cultural differences. Hence it creates a platform for the students to know each other’s culture and interact with each other and appreciate other cultures. Interstate students forum works for unity among the student from different states.

The forum operates with the vision to cater to the needs of other state students and helps them to open up to the new culture without losing their identity and to have holistic development. In return the native state students also become acquainted with diverse cultural heritages of the nation through interaction with other state students and work towards cultural integration among the students. In this academic year, the number of other state students is 97.

The forum works towards achieving its vision through various action programmes such as to provide a favourable environment for the other state students to feel safe and secure, to generate an opportunity for other state students to express their view and ideas at different forums in their own mother tongue, to offer personal and academic counselling to support them and develop their social, psychological and physical well-being for holistic development, to foster the cultural heritage and promote cross cultural understanding through various programme.

Activities of the Forum

The forum facilitates the interstate students to participate in the common college programmes such as college day and campus festival through their participation in cultural dance or song to disseminate their cultural heritage. The forum also celebrates their cultural festivals. As part of the activities of the forum, Onam was celebrated on 10th September 2019 to mark the annual Harvest festival of Kerala. It falls on the 22nd nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam.

Besides these, the forum also assists the students in the admission procedure and getting them no clearance certificate from the respective departments, arranges periodic counselling for the interstate students based on their needs, encourages students in academic excellence and arranging training programmes as per the requirements, conducts cross-cultural activities aiming to achieve cultural harmony, searches for some scholarship scheme fitting to their needs, facilitates them to get their certificates after completion of the course.
