Arul Anandar College (Autonomous), a Catholic Minority Institution, established in 1970, is a college affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. St. John de Britto, locally known as Arul Anandar (St. John de Britto), is the Patron of the College.
The college is administered by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic Religious Order known for its service in the fields of education and social work. The college was founded to serve the rural poor and the marginalized people of the region. It has been recognized as a DST-FIST sponsored college and has received a special grant from the UGC under the scheme of "College with Potential for Excellence" (CPE).
The college offers 13 UG, 10 PG and 5 M.Phil. courses. 5 departments are recognized as Research Centres. The college stands out with its unique rural-based curriculum and extension activities.
