Department of English Literature


The Department of English Language and Literature was established in 2011 with a vision of providing “Integrated formation to the rural students towards leadership and empowerment through Literature.” Its primary objectives are to introduce the learners to the art of the English language and to inculcate the values which are embedded in literature; to mould the first-generation Learners of the rural students; to create a conducive academic environment for the promotion of fruitful learning. At present, twelve qualified teachers are serving in the department. The Department offers them a platform for their higher studies and placement.

a. BELL Association to enhance the Communicative Skills of the Students.
b. Oratorium – an Inter-Departmental Public Speaking Forum, to enhance students’ public-speaking skill in English
c. SESHAT - Inter-Collegiate Literary Competitions to showcase students’ presentation skill.
d. Annual Theatre Fest, an Inter-Departmental English Drama Competition, to enhance the theatrical and performance skills of the students.
e. Parent-Teacher Association Meetings to inform the parents about their wards’ progress in studies.
f. Mentor Care Programmes are conducted to closely accompany the students and help them overcome their difficulties in their studies.
g. Educational Tour is arranged for the outgoing Students to have a better exposure and to acquire knowledge of the external world.
h. ‘A Word A Week’, the display of a word on the notice board with meaning, along with Phonetic Transcription and usage of it in sentence, to enhance students’ vocabulary power.
i. Readers’ Club formed exclusively for the faculties and PG students to present the review of books.
j. Monthly Quiz is conducted in History of English Literature for UG and PG Students to give them a comprehensive knowledge in literature.
k. MINERVA, Students’ Online Magazine, in order to help the students to exhibit their creative talents.
