Department of Food Science and Technology


Greetings from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Madurai. This department is one of the youngest department in the college started in the year 2012 as an UGC sponsored innovative programme. It is an interdisciplinary programme comprising Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, Food Quality Evaluation and Food Processing. The course focuses on empowering better food scientist for the future.

The department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by Industry, Society and Academia. Perhaps even more important is our unceasing commitment toward our students, helping them to learn, grow, develop, and achieve their goals in their pursuit to excel in their professional career.

The department considers the committed and dedicated faculty as its core strength in providing value education with professional standards to the enthusiastic and vibrant student community. Improved methods of teaching and learning process are adopted to achieve learning abilities through practice, exposure and motivation. As to pursue our goal in full-fledged sense, we conduct multiple workshops, seminars, conferences, competitions, internships and hands-on trainings to improve the practical aspects of a student’s learning process and encourage our students to participate inter and intra-college events.

Since the dynamic characteristics of the subject, the syllabus is periodically updated. The department focuses on innovative application of technologies in the field of food science and providing enormous exposure to our budding scientists and food technologies. The department has a good Industry interaction in terms of signing MoU’s pertaining to In-plant training, and Industrial visits. The experiential learning course offered mainly to impart knowledge and confidence in order to motivate the students to become entrepreneurs.

Our Alumni occupy valuable positions in reputed Food Industries Nationally and also shining as successful entrepreneurs. We heartily welcome the dynamic and enthusiastic young minds to get involved and benefit each other.
